Restaurant Week - Wait, There's More!
Phew!
Another Restaurant Week has come and gone. As always, there were winners - restaurants that really took the opportunity to show off what they have to offer all year round - and losers - those whose treated it as more of a burden or, worse, barely gave it a thought.
If you were out of town, busy, or just forgot, you may be thinking that you missed your chance to take advantage of those great Restaurant Week deals - $35.09 dinners and $20.09 lunches. But we wanted to remind you that you've still got more than 30 options this week, if you want to make up for lost time (or a bad experience last week).
For reminders of what these restaurants are offering, check back at our original post. And for reservations (much more readily available than they were last week) through OpenTable, click on the restaurant names. No link means no OpenTable participation.
Enjoy this chance to end February on a culinary high note!

Restaurant Week Updates: Have You Made Your Reservations Yet?
With ten days to go before the start of Restaurant Week (February 16th), many of the participating restaurants are publicizing their menus, with the caveat that menus can change based on the availability of ingredients.
But some of the most sought-after establishments have made it clear that they won't be able to publish their menus until after Valentine's Day, at which point they will serve more as coming attractions for those who already have reservations than as enticements for those who were thinking about checking them out.
And that's really the classic conflict that we all face as we approach Restaurant Week. Do we lock in the most in-demand reservations early, hoping that we don't end up with menu options that leave us underwhelmed? Or do we go with places that announce their menus as soon as the dates are up, foregoing the risk in favor of something we can count on?
We've been busy gathering menus over the past week - and we want to thank those of you who have helped by posting comments at our original post letting us know what you've found.
If you haven't already done so, we would highly recommend you think about making reservations soon. And if your top choices haven't posted their menus yet, look back through our archives to see what they've offered in the past. It's usually a good indication of how they'll play things this time around.
We're really pleased to see how many restaurants are extending their deals - some have started already, and others will be stretching Restaurant Week all the way through the end of the month. So if you can't get your coveted reservation during the official week, you may still be able to take advantage the week after.
New Updates this week include:
14K
701
Adour
Ardeo/Bardeo
Bistro Bis and Vidalia
Black Salt
Farrah Olivia
Geranio
Il Mulino
La Tomate
New Heights
Passion Food Hospitality Restaurants (Acadiana, Ceiba, DC Coast, PassionFish, TenPenh)
Chef Geoff's, Chef Geoff's Downtown and LIA's
Vermillion
And there's more on the way!

You'll be able to find all the updates in our original DC Restaurant Week post, so keep checking back there to see what's new.
We'll also be putting up regular notes like this one to let you know about what we're finding. After all...knowing is half the battle.

We've already got a list of a dozen restaurants that will allow you to take advantage of their RW deals the following week, as well. Plan accordingly!

DC Restaurant Week Winter 2009
It's back!
DC Restaurant Week will return for its annual winter installment next month, pushed back a few weeks so as not to fall during the week of the inauguration. From Monday, February 16th through Sunday, February 22nd, DC Foodies will be able to enjoy this season's special meal deals.
For those of you new to the D.C. Metro area who are unfamiliar with what DC Restaurant Week is, here's a brief summary. DC Restaurant Week occurs twice a year during the slow restaurant season in the winter (usually January) and the late summer (usually August). During this time, participating restaurants (this is key because not ALL restaurants participate in the program) will offer lunch for $20.09 or dinner for $35.09. Some restaurants will offer their full menu while others will have a special Restaurant Week menu.
Choosing restaurants to visit can be a complex decision as some restaurants do Restaurant Week very well and others just phone it in. I encourage people to do a search for past DC Restaurant Week posts on this web site where people have written comments about their experiences at different restaurants when deciding on where to dine. Here are some brief pointers to use when choosing restaurants:
- Avoid "special" menus unless you know exactly what the restaurant is offering and it actually sounds interesting to you. Restaurants offering mos - or ideally all - of their normal menu are the restaurants to go to, as these are the best deals.
- Confirm with the restaurant when making a reservation that they are in fact participating in D.C. Restaurant Week.
- When choosing a restaurant, consider whether or not they always have a deal similar to the Restaurant Week offer. For instance, Cafe Atlantico always has a pre-theater prix-fixe menu.
- Some restaurants (as you can see in our previous menu lists below) participate in D.C. Restaurant Week for extended periods - sometimes as long as the entire month! You might want to consider booking reservations at those restaurants outside the main Restaurant Week period. For most participating restaurants, D.C. Restaurant Weeks are the busiest times of the year, so they are likely to be crowded.
To simplify the process for people every six months, the D.C. Foodies writers compile a list of Restaurant Week menus for all of the participating restaurants and for a comprehensive map of the 170+ restaurants taking part this year, check out Capital Spice.
Take a look back at some of our previous posts while we start collecting menus from the participating restaurants. This year we'll be posting updates every few days, so keep checking in to see if your restaurants have revealed their plans!

DC Restaurant Week - Jan 2007
Click here to see the most recent details on the current DC Restaurant Week.
Wow, did the year fly by. I feel like it was just yesterday that I did the post for the last D.C. Restaurant Week and here we are with the New Year right upon us.
D.C. Restaurant Week will be Monday January 8 through Sunday January 14. I confirmed with Washington.org today and their web site should be updated by next week with the full list of participating restaurants, so stay tuned for updates.
I'm hoping to find the time to do my usual recommendations post soon after that comes out, but if you want to make a reservation sooner rather than later, refer to my post from the last D.C. Restaurant Week. Just make sure you check that they are participating again.
Update: The Washington.org site has updated the list of participating restaurants, which is really no different than previous Restaurant Weeks. New restaurants on the list this year include Farrah Olivia, Indigo Landing, Lia's, and PS 7's so you'll probably want to book them first as most people want to try them. Now that the list is up, I'll be updating this post with as many menus as I can track down. Stay tuned...
Update: Below are the restaurants that have their menus posted online or have sent me their menus. As usual, Dino is first on the draw and has sent me their menu.

DC Restaurant Week - August 2006
Click for information on the latest D.C. Restaurant Week
OK. The list of restaurants participating in Restaurant Week is up again and the usual restaurants are participating. 1789, which is usually one of the more popular choices for Restaurant Week, is NOT participating, although with a new chef and a regular pre-theater menu, I'm not surprised they bowed out.
I haven't received many responses to my inquiries yet, but when I do, I'll start posting what the restaurants are offering. If you can't wait to make your reservations, then I'd suggest that you go with one of these suggestions.
Corduroy
Corduroy is one of my favorite restaurants in the city due to their superior service, food, and wine. They always offer their full menu during Restaurant Week with a few upcharges, and with most entrees between $20 and $30, Restaurant Week makes Corduroy a very good deal.
Vidalia
Vidalia offers most of their regular menu for Restaurant Week. Their food is exceptional, and their wine list even better.
Ristorante Tosca
Tosca is probably one of the better and more expensive Italian restaurants in the city which makes it a great deal during Restaurant Week.
Kinkeads
Kinkeads doesn't normally offer dinner service as part of their Restaurant Week offering. Since this is likely not to occur again, I'd take advantage of this while you can.
Also, here are some rules/tips for Restaurant Week for you newbies out there.
- Make sure when you make the reservation, that you tell the person on the phone that you are going to order the Restaurant Week menu.
- Go somewhere new. Take advantage of this offer and try a restaurant that you wouldn't normally go to.
- Think about how much you are actually saving by dining during Restaurant Week. Places that offer small plate or tapas probably wont give you the best bang for your buck.
- Keep in mind that this is one of the busiest times of the year for restaurants and they make their money on volume, so please be sure to be courtious and call to cancel your reservation if you can't make it.
- Have fun!
This also could be a good time to go to one of those restaurants that ISN'T participating in Restaurant Week. Everyone is crowding into restaurants that ARE participating, which makes it easier to get a reservation at places like Komi or Palena. Just a thought.
Here is the information on menus for Restaurant Week that I have:

DC Restaurant Week - Jan 2006
For info about the most recent DC Restaurant Week go here.
Update: The following restaurants have confirmed with me that they're extending the Restaurant Week special another week.
Sea Catch Restaurant - through the 21st
CABANAS - menu available at dcseafood.com
Nick's Riverside Grille - menu available at dcseafood.com
Tony and Joe's Seafood Place - menu available at dcseafood.com
Butterfield 9 - menu available at dcseafood.com
Sam & Harry's
The Caucus Room Sorry, I added these two as a mistake. They are not extending.
Dino - Through the 19th
21P - Extending for Dinner only.
If anyone out there knows of other DC restaurants that are extending Restaurant Week, please leave a comment, and I will add it to the list. I am still getting responses from restaurants that I've emailed and I will add them as they come in as well.
DC Restaurant Week is scheduled for January 9th - 15th. As usual, lunch will be $20.06 and dinner is $30.06. I think this time, I'm not going to bother listing ALL of the participating restaurants here since you can see the complete list of restaurants at the washington.org web site.
I'm going to call or email as many of them as possible and as I get information from them I'll fill in the list below with their offerings.
Usually, I'm not done until the week before, because many restaurants
don't finalize their menus until then.
Some tips:
1) Make a reservation early.
2) Make sure you confirm with the restaurant when you make the reservation that they are participating in Restaurant Week. Some restaurants only participate for lunch or dinner so double check when you make a reservation for lunch of dinner.
3) Stick with restaurant that offers their regular, full or partial menu. Lot's of restaurants will only offer a "special" menu that isn't anything they normally serve, which completely defeats the purpose of Restaurant Week. This gets you in the door, and then you order off their real menu.
4) If OpenTable shows that a restaurant is completely booked, it doesn't mean that the restaurant doesn't have any reservations left. Call the restaurant directly to double check.

Restaurant Week Update
I went to Circle Bistro tonight and everything was wonderful. I'd recommend NOT going with the wine pairing though, because the staff isn't used to doing wine pairings, and their timing of when they bring out the glasses of wine is way off. I started with the goat cheese fritter with marinated beets -- a pretty basic dish, but nonetheless very tasty. Amy didn't order the Restaurant Week menu, but instead opted for some gazpacho and salad. The gazpacho was a "Rockin" gazpacho with crab meat and heirloom tomatoes -- the cold soup had a a slightly acidic start and a nice spicy kick towards the end of each taste. The desserts on the Restaurant Week menu weren't anything to cry wolf about. While they tasted good, I felt myself wishing I'd ordered Circle Bistro's warm madelines off their regular menu.
Wed night, I went to Vidalia which was good but far from mind blowing. I mean, nothing we had there was bad, but I wondered if it would be worth paying their normal prices for. I'd have to try Vidalia some other time besides Restaurant Week to make a complete judgement.
Finally, Bombay Club was our destination Monday. I actually rather liked the dress code -- it gave me a chance to wear that sport coat that I hadn't taken out of the closet all year. I really liked my lamb saag (lamb with spinach curry).
From the comments on my main Restaurant Week post, it looks like pretty much everyone who's going to Corduroy is enjoying it, which I'm happy to hear. Anyone who couldn't get a reservation this week should keep in mind that they can go next week and get the same Restaurant Week deal.
Happy Restaurant Week dining everyone!
