Amy's Birthday
Nov 14, 2004
Amy's birthday is the 27th of December and I am trying to figure out where to take her to dinner. So far the list includes Cafe Atlantico's Minibar, Laboratorio del Galileo, Citronelle, Restaurant Eve and Ceiba. Cieba is unlikely because we've already been their. Having never actually been to the other four, I'm like a kid in a toy store. Which one to pick...
My wife and I went to Eve for our anniversary on Friday and it was fantastic. I put a review on eGullett. I highly recommend it.

I did Minibar for my 30th three months ago, and it was amazing. You can also order wine flights to go with it--five glasses per flight. Total bill with tip was a bit over $300, but worth every penny. I can't thing of a greater foodie paradise. Tip: I think they take reservations one month in advance. Start calling at 8 a.m. if you want to get the 8:30 seating. It was filled up, and I had to settle for the 6, by the time I called at 8:30 a.m. Great site, by the way. A longtime DC foodie, I am a big fan.

Long time reader, first time poster. Love the site, and love Amy's site, too. On to the birthday discussion...here in Santa Barbara we have the original Citronelle. Michael Richard has mostly stopped cooking here, but it is still fabulous. I went for my 30th birthday last year and it was incredible. I'm thinking the DC one should be just as good. The bill was around $300 with wine. Good luck!

Thanks for the comments everyone. It's going to be a really tough choice. Hopefully wherever we go turns out to be good. I hate being disappointed.

I suggest that you go to a place where the decor matches the beautiful purse you bought her a few weeks ago.

Ah, so you read Amy's site as well huh?
You have no idea how many points that purse got me... :)

For Amy's big birthday go to City Zen in the new Manderin-Oriental Hotel. As it is during Xmas week if you go make sure chef Zieboldt is cooking. He was at the French Laundry in Napa Valley for 8 years and this could become the city's best if is not already. I also have had more mediocre experiences at Citronelle even when Chef Richard is cooking than I care to remember.
