Happy Diwali
Nov 15, 2004
So I came in this morning to an email that one of my Indian co-workers sent out:
"Last week we had one the most important Indian festivals called Diwali (The Festival of Lights). Like Christmas this is a time for sharing and giving. Specifically the “money” god (Lakshmi) is worshipped and everyone prays for prosperity.
This is also the Indian New Year.
So I would like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year.
On this traditionally everyone makes a lot of finger food and shares it with friends and neighbors. So in the spirit I have some food at my cube. Please come and experiment with some Indian finger food.
Ghugra – turnovers filled with coconut and sugar
Peda – dairy based sweet
Chiwda – a spicy preparation made from parched rice.
Chaklis – circularly shaped stuff made from lentil four, fried and spicy"
Anyway, I am now full, and it is not even time for lunch yet. I guess I will save my leftovers from the Heritage India takeout from last night for tomorrow. :)
