Life is good when you add a little kick

I ate of the hottest things I've had in long time last night. I ordered some delivery from Heritage India, and in an effort to change things up a bit from the usual saag gosht or murg makhani, I ordered the lamb vindaloo.

Holy Shit that was hot!

(I still finished it though.)

The lamb was fork tender, which I was very happy about -- the lamb I've been getting around here lately hasn't been the most tender and has more of an overcooked beef texture than lamb.

Yeah, but how many beers did it take to put out the fire? Or did you just keep a container of sour cream next to you?

We ordered it as well a few weeks ago and it melted straight through the table. They apologized and brought us a Nomex table cloth to prevent it from happening again.

We took the leftovers home and added a few drops of the curry vindaloo sauce into a pot of soup. That little bit was enough to turn it radioactive and cause the fire alarm to go off.

The rest of it sat in the fridge for a few days, occasionally being used incredibly sparingly as a flaming hot hot HOT! sauce. I don't think we ever finished it -- perhaps we sold it to Iran for their nuclear program.

Needless to say, we haven't ordered it again.

The vindaloo at Heritage is the hottest dish I've eaten, anytime or anywhere. I've spent considerable time in India, but I've never had anything that hot. The night I ordered it, I must have finished two or three pitchers of water, as no amount of raita could temper the fire.

But somehow, despite the searing heat, the dish was delicious. I can't even begin to explain how this could be, but I finished the entire order.
