DC Restaurant Week - Jan 2007

Click here to see the most recent details on the current DC Restaurant Week.

Wow, did the year fly by. I feel like it was just yesterday that I did the post for the last D.C. Restaurant Week and here we are with the New Year right upon us.

D.C. Restaurant Week will be Monday January 8 through Sunday January 14. I confirmed with Washington.org today and their web site should be updated by next week with the full list of participating restaurants, so stay tuned for updates.

I'm hoping to find the time to do my usual recommendations post soon after that comes out, but if you want to make a reservation sooner rather than later, refer to my post from the last D.C. Restaurant Week. Just make sure you check that they are participating again.

Update: The Washington.org site has updated the list of participating restaurants, which is really no different than previous Restaurant Weeks. New restaurants on the list this year include Farrah Olivia, Indigo Landing, Lia's, and PS 7's so you'll probably want to book them first as most people want to try them. Now that the list is up, I'll be updating this post with as many menus as I can track down. Stay tuned...

Update: Below are the restaurants that have their menus posted online or have sent me their menus. As usual, Dino is first on the draw and has sent me their menu.

Ceiba. DC Coast, Acadiana, Ten Pehn
Lunch and Dinner
Ceiba, as well as the other restaurants that are part of the Passion Food restaurant group (Acadiana, DC Coast, Ten Pehn) always offer a good majority of their menu during restaurant week. A few things are held off, but the resulting menu usually gives a good feel for what the normal experience is at the restaurant.

Circle Bistro, Dish, Notti Bianche

Corduroy
Lunch and Dinner
Corduroy always offers their full menu for Restaurant Week with a couple upcharges for the more expensive items. This is definitely a must for the first time Restaurant Week diner. I've always had good experiences at Corduroy during restaurant week.

Viridian usually offers their full menu for Restaurant Week and it's a pretty good deal. Plus, they have a new chef and I'm sure they'll be trying to make a good impression on the new diners. I was pretty surprised at how good the service was at Viridian during the last Restaurant Week.

Lia's Revisited

While we were running some errands on Saturday, Amy and I stopped by Lia's in Friendship Heights again for lunch. My favorite thing to get there so far is the Filei Calabresi with a sweet and spicy pork sausage, juicy grape tomatoes and green peas. I especially like how the cooks don't pile on the sauce and let the the other ingredients flavor the dish. I think you'll find that the portions of the pasta entrees are big enough to share with someone else, and Amy and I have been able to share this dish both times we've eaten it.

Start with the arugula salad, add a couple glasses of wine, and you've got yourself a mighty fine lunch. But add too many glasses of wine, and suddenly you're wondering how a quick $20 lunch turned into a $60 one...

Early Dino Dinner

I was happy to see that Dino is still pounding out good food when we dropped in for an early dinner on Friday night. It was a few months since we dropped in so I didn't mind ordering some of my usual favorites like the hearty Pappardelle ai Cinghiale, or Aglio (roasted garlic) which Amy refers to as Washington DC's Dish Most Worth Missing Out On A Goodnight Kiss, but we also tried a couple of the "newer" dishes like the three-cheese polenta with baccala (salt cod) and the Zucca Ripieno, a magnificent vegetarian dish that's basically a hollowed out squash filled with a hearty winter veggie hash. Oh, and it also came with the creamy three-cheese polenta on the side.

My favorite thing that night was not something we ate, but was the bottle of Marchese Dei Gresy Nebbiolo that we drank with dinner. Slightly spicy flavors were complimented by a nice smooth finish similar to that of a Pinot Noir. I find that whenever I delve deep into the wine book at Dino, I leave even more impressed with the wine selection.

A great meal at a great price with friendly service. What else can you ask for?

Holiday Dining in the District (And Maybe Parts of VA)

I've received many emails on this topic lately, so rather than bothering to return all of those emails, I thought I'd just post something on the subject and save myself a little time...

2941
A Christmas Eve buffet will be available from noon to 8PM. Menu is on the 2941 web site here. 2941 is not open on New Year's Eve.

Equinox
Check out Equinox's Christmas Eve menu featuring many incredible options like Cream of Chestnut Soup, Maple Glazed Muscovy Duck with Leg Confit, Mustard Crusted Rack of Lamb, and Eggnog Ice Cream. It won't be cheap, but it'll sure be good. Full menu on the Equinox web site here. On New Year's Eve, a six-course tasting menu will be offered for...well, the web site doesn't say.

Dino
Bringing a traditional meal normally served in Italy on Christmas Eve to DC. From the Dino web site, "The Feast of the 7 Fish is is an all seafood meal that usually includes fried fish, seafood soup, ravioli and a whole fish." A limited version of their regular menu will be available as well. See the full "Feast of the Seven Fish" menu here which will be available the 22nd through the 24th. On New Year's Eve, Dino will be offering a five-course menu for $85 a person. I'd spend time describing the menu, but you can easily read how fun it sounds here.

Fahrenheit at the Ritz Carlton in Georgetown
Open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day offering a four-course dinner both days. Call (202) 912-4100 for reservations. They're also open New Year's Eve and Day, but no menu is available on their site.
